ANGELS AT THE GATE is the true story of a desperate man at the point of taking his own life. Ken Hulsey served nineteen years of a life sentence in Ohio Correctional Institutions; the last eight years being at Marion Correctional Institute in Marion, Ohio and was known by guards and fellow inmates as "the hermit". Ken's life was spared by the direct intervention of God. God specifically called a group of people in Toledo, Ohio to pray for Ken and minister to him by writing him letters. One woman in the group felt a powerful call to minister to Ken further by visiting him at the prison. Against the wishes of the rest of the group, and the wishes of her children and friends, Char decided to obey God's call and undertook the prison visit. Ken's attitude was arrogant and hostile, yet Char continued to obey God's call. Today through God's limitless power and grace, Ken Hulsey is a committed Christian, studying for a pastorate, and lives his life to tell people of Jesus Christ's love for them.
ANGELS AT THE GATE is presented here on this website to testify to the power of God's love in our lives. Ken and Char pray that the retelling of this story will touch your heart no matter who you are or where you live.
Ken and Char desire in particular that if you are in prison, or have a loved one in prison, that their story will bring you hope and the desire to open your heart and mind to the love of Jesus Christ.
There are many kinds of prisons in the world in which we live. The prisons of addiction, estrangement, unforgiveness, and bitterness have many thousands of inmates, all sentenced to eternity. The only parole for the "inmates" is the love of Jesus Christ. It is freely available to those who have enough knowledge of God's unchanging Word to ask for it. Ken and Char pray that you who read the chapters here will feel God's persistent call to bring the Good News to all His people.
